The problem of polygamy being carried out secretly in Purwosari Village, Wonoasri District, Madiun Regency, was carried out without involving the first wife, so that the marriage that occurred was not registered at the Religious Affairs Office. Polygamy is carried out secretly because the husband feels that if he gets permission from his first wife he will never get permission and is also afraid to be honest with his first wife. The husband also feels embarrassed if his polygamous marriage is known to many people.
This research aims to find out the requirements for polygamy in accordance with Islamic law and to find out what are the prohibitions on polygamy and the views on polygamy that must be implemented according to Islamic law. Marriage in religion is clearly regulated to ensure that each person's lineage is maintained. Apart from that, religion also gives men the freedom to have more than one wife, which is called polygamy. This is permitted under several conditions, such as the presence of a disease in a woman who is not allowed to have children.
The type of research used by the authors is field research, namely all research that attempts to find data by going directly to the location to obtain the required data supported by literature study. For field research with a qualitative approach, efforts are made to produce field data using interviews, observation and direct documentation using research methods.
The results of this research show that when polygamy occurs without the wife's permission, what the wife gets is feelings of hurt, disappointment because her husband does not heed the Islamic regulations contained therein, the wife can only harbor the occurrence of polygamy. Thus, the wife is mentally and emotionally depressed.
