ABSTRACT
THE RELATIONSHIP OF ANXIETY WITH COPING MECHANISM IN THE PATIENT'S FAMILY
IN THE INTENSIVE CARE UNIT (ICU) ROOM OF PONOROGO HOSPITAL

Patient critical namely patients who experience physiological changes that quickly worsen and there are changes in the function of body systems that affect other organs and can cause death. Patients with this condition require treatment in the ICU. The condition of patients entering the ICU is sudden and unplanned. This causes the patient's family to experience anxiety. Anxiety in the family can hinder the patient's care process so that appropriate coping mechanisms are needed to resolve this problem .
The research design used cross sectional , the aim of the research was to determine the relationship between anxiety and coping mechanisms in the families of patients in the ICU at RSUM Ponorogo . The research population was the families of ICU patients at RSU Muhammadiyah Ponorogo. The sampling used is Consecutive Sampling. The research sample was 40 respondents. Data were collected using anxiety questionnaire sheets and coping mechanisms.
The research results showed that the majority of respondents, namely 27 (67.5%) had mild levels of anxiety, the majority of respondents 26 (65%) had adaptive coping mechanisms. After conducting an analysis test using Pearson Chi Square, the p value = 0.000 < 0.05 and the calculated r was 0.719, it was found that there was a relationship between anxiety and coping mechanisms in the families of patients in the ICU at RSU Muhammadiyah Ponorogo with a very strong correlation.
The conclusion of this research is that there is a relationship between anxiety and coping mechanisms in the families of patients in the ICU at RSU Muhammadiyah Ponorogo . For RSU Muhammadiyah Ponorogo, apart from providing patient-focused services, we are paying more attention to services to families accompanying patients, especially regarding the anxiety of patient families in the ICU room by creating SOPs for preventing anxiety for patient families in the ICU room at RSU Muhammadiyah Ponorogo.
