Abstract

ABSTRACT

THE RELATIONSHIP OF THE ROLE OF NURSES AS EDUCATORS TO COMPLIANCE WITH MEDICATION IN HYPERTENSION PATIENTS IN THE INTERNAL DISEASE CLINIC OF GENERAL HOSPITAL ‘ AISYIYAH PONOROGO

By: Rony Dwi Cahyono

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease that can cause death. One of the absolute requirements for achieving therapeutic effectiveness and improving patient quality of life is compliance, while patient non-compliance in taking medication is one of the main factors causing therapy failure. The role of nurses as educators helps patients increase their knowledge about medical care and procedures so that patients get information to increase medication adherence for hypertension. The aim of this research is to analyze the influence of the nurse's role as an educator on medication adherence in hypertensive patients.
This research method is a quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach which was carried out on 60 respondents suffering from hypertension at the Internal Medicine Polyclinic at Aisyiyah Hospital Ponorogo. This research method uses a data collection technique which is carried out by providing an instrument in the form of a questionnaire on the role of nurses and compliance with taking medication which is then tested using the Chi-Square test.
The results of this study showed that the role of nurses as educators at the Internal Medicine Polyclinic at Aisyiyah Hospital Ponorogo was good for 34 respondents (56.7%), and compliance with taking medication in hypertensive patients at the Internal Medicine Polyclinic had the most moderate compliance at 43 respondents (71.7%). ). From the results of this study, there is an influence between the role of nurses and adherence to medication in patients with hypertension (p=0.000).
It can be concluded that there is an influence between the role of nurses as educators and adherence to taking medication. So the better the nurse's role as an educator, the more compliant the patient will be in taking medication
