Abstract

THE RELATIONSHIP OF THE LEVEL OF COMMUNITY KNOWLEDGE WITH INITIAL TREATMENT ATTITUDE TO SNAKE BITE IN TOKAWI VILLAGE

Venomous snake bites are an emergency that is known globally, especially in tropical regions where the main occupations are farmers, fishermen, hunters and snake charmers. Knowledge is also an important aspect in cases of snakebite first aid. High knowledge is needed when someone experiences a snake bite because with high education and knowledge, someone can take care of snake bites. A positive attitude also has a big influence on the actions a person will take. This research aims to analyze the relationship between community knowledge and attitudes towards initial handling of snake bites in Tokawi Village.
Correlation research design with a cross sectional approach. The population of people in Tokawi Village who have helped snakebite victims with a sample size of 30 respondents. Sampling uses Snowball Sampling. The data collection technique used a questionnaire and analyzed using the Chi Square test with significance α = 0.05.
The final results of the research showed that the majority of people's knowledge about initial handling of snake bites was lacking, namely 16 respondents (53.3%) and the community's attitude regarding initial treatment of snake bites was negative, namely 18 respondents (60.0%). The result of p value = 0.004 states that there is a relationship between the level of community knowledge and attitudes towards initial handling of snake bites in Tokawi Village. The public can increase their knowledge about how to treat snake bites, the types of venomous snakes and for attitudes, namely the public can provide how to properly take initial treatment for snake bites.
