Abstract

Rolla Ridayah Misuri. The cultivation of character values in early childhood is an important part of education, particularly in shaping children’s personalities from an early age. This article aims to systematically describe the process of instilling the values of honesty and responsibility in early childhood through the storytelling method using stories of the prophets. The background of this research is based on the considerable challenges in instilling character values in young children, especially amid the rapid flow of digitalization. In this context, a contextual and inspiring learning approach such as storytelling becomes a strategic and promising alternative for conveying character values—particularly when the story content comes from the lives of the prophets, which are rich in moral and spiritual examples.
This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The research subjects were children aged 5–6 years at PAUD Ar-Risalah Ngawi. Data were collected through observation, interviews with teachers, and documentation of the storytelling process of the prophets’ stories. The results show that teachers implemented the storytelling stages systematically, starting from the pre-activity, during the activity, and post-activity stages. The children demonstrated positive behavioral changes, including honesty in speaking and responsibility in completing tasks and maintaining shared rules.
The discussion of the results indicates that this approach is effective in developing children’s character and can make an important contribution to cultivating honesty and responsibility. In conclusion, the storytelling method of the prophets’ stories is a promising strategy for instilling honesty and responsibility in early childhood. By implementing a structured approach through pre-storytelling, storytelling, and post-storytelling stages, children displayed positive behaviors such as admitting mistakes without being prompted and completing tasks without reminders.
