In today’s era, introducing English at an early age was considered a beneficial step to get them ready for a world that was becoming more interconnected by the day. One of the major factors that can affected children's success in learning English was the family environment. Therefore, this study also emphasized the crucial role of the family environment, particularly parents, in supporting and facilitating the development of foreign language skills, especially English. The aim of this study was to explore parents’ perceptions and roles in contributing to young learners’ English language learning achievement.
This research adopted a qualitative approach, utilized semi-structured interviews and documentation as data collection methods. The participants of the study were five parents whose children were between the ages of six and twelve. Documentation, in the form of document collection, was used to gather supporting evidence related to the children’s English learning progress.
The findings revealed that most parents held positive perceptions toward the early introduction of English. They demonstrated varied involvement in their children’s learning process, including mentoring in learning process, providing engaging learning media, offering diverse educational resources, and giving motivational support to encourage their children. These perceptions and roles had a significant effect on young learners’ English learning achievement.
The study concluded that perceptions and active roles of parents significantly contributed to the English learning achievement of young learners. These findings were expected to provide valuable insights for parents, educators, and educational institutions in designing collaborative English language learning strategies that integrated both home and school environments.
