Abstract
Aylin Kartika Putri. The Effect of Implementing the Multi-Representation Discourse Learning Model on the Numeracy Skills of Class VIII Students at SMP Negeri 1 Sooko. Thesis. Department of Mathematics Education, Muhammadiyah University of Ponorogo, Advisor 1 Drs. Jumadi, M. Pd., Advisor 2 Erika Eka Santi, M. Si.
Numeracy is a fundamental skill essential for students to navigate today's increasingly data- and number-driven world. However, students' numeracy skills in Indonesia remain relatively low, including at SMP Negeri 1 Sooko. This study aims to determine the effect of the Multi-Representational Discourse Learning Model on the numeracy skills of eighth-grade students at SMPN 1 Sooko.
This research design is an experiment with the Posttest-Only Control Design type. The research location is at SMPN 1 Sooko, with a population of all eighth grade students of 153 students spread into 5 classes. The research sample was randomly selected, namely classes VIII-B and VIII-A, which were then randomly determined the type of treatment. As a result, class VIII B was given the DMR Model treatment and class VIII A was given the Conventional Model treatment. Data collection techniques include documentation to obtain data on student learning outcomes before the research was conducted, tests to measure numeracy skills, and questionnaires to determine the validity of the teaching module and test questions. The research instruments consisted of report card scores, numeracy questions, test question validity questionnaires, and teaching module validity questionnaires. The data analysis technique used the Independent Samples t-test.
The results of the study indicate that the implementation of the DMR learning model significantly impacted students' numeracy skills. This is demonstrated by a significance value of 0.00 obtained from the Independent Samples t-test. Therefore, the use of the DMR model can be an effective alternative learning strategy to improve students' numeracy skills.
