Abstract

This study analyzes the forms and mechanisms of love scamming fraud carried out through social media, as well as evaluates the law enforcement efforts by the police in handling such cases. The fraud involves perpetrators using false identities and emotional manipulation to unlawfully obtain money, violating Article 378 of the Indonesian Penal Code (KUHP) and Article 27 paragraph (3) of the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (ITE). Law enforcement in love scamming cases highlights the importance of digital evidence and forensic technology in investigations, particularly through electronic communications and financial transactions. Although the penalties imposed on perpetrators are relatively light, existing regulations still provide a legal basis for prosecuting the offenders. However, law enforcement against cybercrimes faces significant challenges, such as the use of false identities and the confidentiality of data needed for evidence. Therefore, there is a need for regulatory updates that are more adaptable to technological developments to protect victims and prevent similar crimes. Additionally, public education on the dangers of love scamming and the importance of protecting personal information is essential. This study employs a normative legal research method with a literature study approach to examine relevant regulations, legal theories, and related literature. Overall, law enforcement in love scamming requires a comprehensive approach that involves strict law enforcement, victim protection, and preventive efforts to reduce the impact of cybercrime in the future.
