Abstract
ABSTRACT
Rindiani, 2025. The Role of Asy Syabab Social Da'wah Institution in Increasing the Spiritual Awareness of the Community in Banaran Village, Pulung District, Ponorogo Regency. Islamic Religious Education Study Program, Faculty of Islamic Studies. Advisors: (1) Dr. Afiful Ikhwan, M.Pd.I., and (2) Lilis Sumaryanti, M.Pd.
This research aims to examine the role of the da'wah institution carried out by Lembaga Dakwah Sosial Asy Syabab in enhancing the spiritual awareness of the community in Banaran Village. The focus of this study is based on the phenomenon of low spiritual awareness in rural communities, which remains mixed with local cultural practices that tend toward shirk (polytheism), such as belief in the power of heirlooms, offering rituals, trust in shamans, and similar practices. The academic problem raised is the gap between the ideal teachings of Islam as stated in the Qur'an and Hadith, and the Islamic practices of rural communities that are still intertwined with deviant local traditions. This reflects the suboptimal understanding and implementation of Islamic values in daily life. This study uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. The data obtained were presented descriptively in both written and oral forms. The research subjects included the head and team of Lembaga Dakwah Sosial Asy Syabab, as well as residents of Banaran Village. After data collection, analysis was carried out using data reduction, data presentation, and verification methods, with data validity ensured through triangulation techniques.
The findings of the study are as follows: (1) The religious and social conditions of the Banaran Village community before the establishment of this da'wah institution were still influenced by various local cultural elements that contradicted Islamic teachings. The lack of access to religious education and platforms to instill religious values led to an incomplete understanding of Islam among the community. (2) The role of Asy Syabab's da'wah in enhancing the spiritual awareness of the community was realized through practical, relevant, and contextual programs using a community-based da'wah approach that directly engages with people’s lives. These include weekly Qur’anic learning sessions (TPA) held three times a week, monthly Islamic studies, donations for orphans and the poor, and annual programs such as iftar gatherings during Ramadan, study tours for TPA students, and animal sacrifice during Eid al-Adha. (3) The impact of Asy Syabab's da'wah in increasing spiritual awareness has been significant, as evidenced by changes in religious behavior, such as increased participation in congregational prayers, the habituation of children and youth to the mosque, the resounding of the adhan in mosques, and strong community enthusiasm for the Islamic study programs organized by the da'wah institution. However, challenges in the implementation of da'wah remain, including both supporting and inhibiting internal and external factors.
