Abstract

The increasing need for fast and stable internet access, particularly in RT/RW Net environments serving household customers with various needs such as streaming and downloading, presents challenges in network traffic management, particularly when using more than one internet service provider (ISP). This research implements the Software Defined Networking (SDN) architecture as a solution to address the problem of uneven traffic distribution through a load balancing mechanism. SDN provides centralized and flexible control in network management, enabling dynamic and efficient traffic management. The implementation was carried out using an OpenDaylight controller and a MikroTik device as a router configured to support the Openflow protocol for load balancing between two ISPs. Test results showed improvements in Quality of Service (QoS) parameters such as throughput, delay, jitter, and packet loss. The QoS test results yielded an average of 8.39 Mbps for throughput, 0.09% for packet loss, 38.6 ms for delay, and 11.4 ms for jitter. All of the above test results demonstrate an improvement in network quality compared to before implementing Software Defined Network and load balancing.
