THE EFFECT OF EARLY MOBILIZATION ASSISTANCE ON THE INCIDENCE OF ORTHOSTATIC INTOLERANCE IN POST-OPERATING PATIENTS
At 'Aisyiyah General Hospital, Ponorogo

Early mobilization is a process of activity carried out after surgery and can be done gradually for all types of anesthesia, with the patient conscious. Early mobilization can be hampered by the presence of orthostatic intolerance. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of early mobilization assistance on the incidence of orthostatic intolerance in post-operative patients at 'Aisyiyah General Hospital, Ponorogo.
The research method used was a quantitative study with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group. The target population was all post-operative patients in the inpatient ward of 'Aisyiyah General Hospital, Ponorogo. The sample calculation implemented the Slovin formula with a sample size of 78 respondents. Sampling was conducted using non-probability sampling using a purposive sampling method for 26 days, from June 1, 2025, to June 26, 2025. This study used a questionnaire instrument to measure early mobilization observation sheets and orthostatic intolerance observation sheets using the Mann-Whitney U-test.
The statistical test results using the Mann-Whitney test yielded a p-value of 0.018, <0.05, indicating an effect of early mobilization assistance on orthostatic intolerance in postoperative patients in the inpatient ward of RSU 'Aisyiyah Ponorogo. Twenty-three patients (59%) of respondents who received early mobilization assistance postoperatively did not experience orthostatic intolerance (score 0), while 16 patients (41%) experienced orthostatic intolerance (score ≥ 1), meaning more than half (59%) of respondents in the intervention group showed no symptoms of orthostatic intolerance. A total of 26 patients (67%) who did not receive early mobilization assistance postoperatively experienced orthostatic intolerance (score ≥ 1), while 13 patients (33%) did not experience orthostatic intolerance (score 0). This means that more than half of the respondents who did not receive assistance during early mobilization showed symptoms of orthostatic intolerance.
The results of this study are expected to enable nurses to continuously educate patients and their families about safe mobilization steps and the importance of reporting post-mobilization complaints. They also optimize the role of the nursing team in early mobilization assistance as part of the post-operative recovery program.
