Abstract

TURP is one of the surgical procedures used to treat BPH. The nursing problem that occurs in post-operative TURP patients is acute pain. One intervention to address pain is to apply Benson relaxation therapy. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of applying Benson relaxation therapy to acute pain nursing problems.
The method used in this study was a nursing process approach, starting from assessment to evaluation, conducted on one patient with a medical diagnosis of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Nursing care was provided in the Mas Mansyur Room at RSUM Ponorogo for 2 days and 3 days at the patient's home, starting from July 30 2025 to August 3, 2025..
The assessment results showed that the patient complained of pain in the lower abdomen with a pain scale of 6 and appeared to be grimacing. The nursing intervention performed to reduce pain was teaching the Benson relaxation technique, which was performed 1-2 times a day for 5 days. After applying the Benson relaxation technique for 5 days, the patient felt comfortable and the pain decreased from a pain scale of 6 to a pain scale of 3.
Nursing care for patients with acute pain nursing problems is expected to be an illustration for postoperative patients who feel pain in order to apply benson relaxation independently to reduce pain intensity.
