Abstract

IMPLEMENTATION OF ROM ( RANGE OF MOTION ) AND HANDGRIP EXERCISE IN POST SURGERY PATIENTS WITH EXTREMITY FRACTURES WITH NURSING PROBLEMS OF PHYSICAL MOBILITY IMPAIRMENT

A distal radius fracture is a fracture that occurs at the lower end of the radius, one of the two main bones in the forearm, located on the thumb side. Post-operative patients with distal radius fractures have difficulty moving their extremities due to pain, leading to nursing problems related to impaired physical mobility. This study aims to provide nursing care for post-operative patients with extremity fractures with impaired physical mobility.
Nursing care was provided in the K.H. Mas Mansur Ward, Muhammadiyah General Hospital, Ponorogo, for five days, from August 7-11, 2025. The nursing process approach was used.
The assessment revealed that the client complained of difficulty moving her left hand due to pain. She also experienced joint stiffness, limited movement, family assistance, and decreased muscle strength. Nursing interventions to address these issues included ROM and handgrip exercises.
After five days of ROM and handgrip exercises, muscle strength increased. This demonstrates the effectiveness of ROM and handgrip exercises in improving muscle strength. ROM and handgrip exercises can be used as holistic nursing interventions to support the healing process of patients with post-extremity fracture surgery.
