Abstract
Chronic low self-esteem is a key symptom in patients with schizophrenia. If left untreated, chronic low self-esteem can impact social responses and cognitive function. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of positive affirmation therapy in reducing chronic low self-esteem in patients with schizophrenia in the Wijaya Kusuma Ward at Dr. Harjono Ponorogo Regional General Hospital.
The method used was a case study with a nursing care approach that included assessment, diagnosis, implementation, and evaluation. The intervention consisted of positive affirmation therapy for 5 days, each session lasting 15 minutes. The instrument used to measure chronic low self-esteem was a questionnaire (Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale).
The results of the application showed an increase in chronic low self-esteem in Mr. A after being given positive affirmation therapy intervention, marked by the client feeling relieved, happy, more open, daring to express himself, showing his face when talking, decreased guilt, decreased feelings of uselessness, feeling of having advantages and the problem of chronic low self-esteem in Mr. A was declared resolved on the 5th day.
Positive affirmation therapy has been shown to help increase self-confidence and reduce symptoms of chronic low self-esteem. It can be concluded that positive affirmation therapy is an effective intervention in increasing positive appraisals in chronic low self-esteem in patients with mental illness.
