APPLICATION OF THE SEMONT MANEUVER IN PATIENTS WITH BENIGN PAROXYSMAL POSITIONAL VERTIGO WITH NURSING PROBLEMS OF FALL RISK

Vertigo, or dizziness, is a common complaint in today's society. The Semont maneuver is a non-pharmacological therapy for vertigo, particularly benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). This case study aims to provide nursing care to Mrs. S, who presented with a fall risk nursing issue in the inpatient ward of the Tladan Community Health Center (UPTD) in Magetan Regency.
The nursing process approach was used for Mrs. S, who experienced benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) and a fall risk nursing issue. Data were collected over a five-day period (September 22nd, 25th, and 29th, 2025). The Semont maneuver was performed for three days, once daily for approximately 15 minutes.
The assessment of Mrs. S revealed a general state of weakness. The patient complained of dizziness and reported a spinning sensation around her. She was unable to move to bed on her own, but received assistance from her family. On the fifth day of treatment, the fall risk was resolved, as evidenced by the patient's reported no longer experiencing dizziness. The patient can sit and stand without falling.
The Semont maneuver can be applied to hospitalized patients with vertigo (BPPV) and nursing problems that increase the risk of falls as a non-pharmacological therapy.
