Abstract

ABSTRACT

Infections in diabetic ulcer wounds determine the condition and duration of the healing process of the wound. The phenomenon of high diabetic ulcer care in hospitals is the main background of this study. Diabetic ulcers require proper wound care techniques to accelerate tissue regeneration. This study examines the role of honey in the modern dressing concept and the use of povidone iodine as a conventional dressing concept in the healing process of diabetic ulcer wounds. The purpose of this study is to determine the comparative effectiveness of wound care techniques using honey and povidone iodine in post-debridement patients. The research method used is quantitative with a quasi-experimental design using a Pre-Test Post-Test With Control Group approach. The sampling technique used is Purposive Sampling. The obtained sample consisted of 32 respondent. Data were collected using the Scale Instrument (BWAT).
The research results showed that the honey group had a significance value of p=0.003, while the povidone iodine group had p=0.046. This proves that both wound care techniques are effective in supporting the wound healing process. However, the comparative test between groups revealed a significant difference (p=0.001; Z=–3.874), with an effect size of r=0.685 indicating a strong influence causing the difference in wound healing score changes to be higher in the honey group, making honey superior to povidone iodine in the care of diabetic ulcer wounds in the Multazam Room of RSI Siti Aisyah Madiun. This study concludes that although honey has superior effectiveness in wound healing, its application in the field needs to consider economic aspects. The relatively higher cost of obtaining pure honey and the challenges in ensuring product authenticity in the market are the main limitations compared to the use of povidone iodine, which is superior in terms of price and ease of availability in the field.
