Abstract

Corruption is considered an extraordinary crime due to its far-reaching and detrimental effects on the state and society. Because of its extraordinary nature, it requires equally comprehensive measures to address it. The establishment of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) was intended to address corruption-related issues in Indonesia. An improvement in Indonesia's Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) could serve as an indicator for policymakers and stakeholders that the existing corruption eradication system and its implementation are supporting current needs, although the KPK has also faced various criticisms and challenges throughout its development. This study aims to examine the substance of the amendments to the KPK Law and the extent to which these amendments have affected the KPK's enforcement of corruption offenses. This study employs a normative legal research method using a statutory approach and a conceptual approach. The results indicate that, cumulatively, the amendments to the KPK Law have the potential to weaken the institution, particularly because the substance of the amendments affects the KPK's degree of independence and authority. This has implications for the reduced effectiveness of the KPK in enforcing corruption offenses in Indonesia.
