Abstract
Feed is a key factor determining livestock productivity and growth. However, small-scale farmers generally still process feed—chopping, mixing, and molding—manually. This process is time-consuming, labor-intensive, and results in inconsistent feed quality. To address these challenges, a simple, efficient, and economical feed processing machine based on Appropriate Technology (TTG) is required. This research aims to design, fabricate, and test the performance and feasibility of a small-scale livestock feed machine capable of chopping, mixing, and molding feed. An engineering research method utilizing a design-and-build approach was employed. The stages included a literature review, identification of farmers' needs, conceptual and mechanical design, technical calculations, fabrication, assembly, and performance testing. Testing was conducted to measure working capacity, time efficiency, and the reliability of each system function. The results indicate that the machine functions effectively in chopping, mixing, and molding feed as intended. Featuring a simple construction, the machine is easy to operate, energy-efficient, and requires minimal maintenance. The introduction of this machine is expected to enhance operational efficiency for farmers while optimizing the quality of the feed produced.
