Chronic low self-esteem is a condition where an individual persistently feels worthless, meaningless, and inadequate over a prolonged period. If chronic low self-esteem is left unaddressed without any intervention, it can lead to negative impacts, such as a loss of interest in socialization. This case study aims to provide an overview of nursing care for schizophrenia patients experiencing chronic low self-esteem at RSJD dr. Arif Zainudin Surakarta.

This nursing care was conducted from February 26 to March 2, 2026, in the Srikandi Ward of RSJD dr. Arif Zainudin Surakarta, utilizing a nursing process approach that includes assessment, data analysis, nursing diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.

The onset of chronic low self-esteem in this client was triggered by feelings of insecurity and shame resulting from job failure and frequent bullying by those around them. To address this condition, the actions taken were based on the SIKI (Indonesian Nursing Intervention Standards) for Self-Esteem Promotion. Several steps practiced directly with the client included mapping out the client's self-perception, training positive affirmations, identifying and honing their remaining potential, and encouraging the client to maintain eye contact during conversations. After all these actions were routinely carried out for 5 days, the final evaluation showed that the client's chronic low self-esteem had been successfully resolved.

This nursing care for patients with chronic low self-esteem is expected to serve as an overview or reference for nurses, particularly in managing schizophrenia patients facing chronic low self-esteem issues.
