Abstract
ABSTRACT
THE EFFECT OF GREEN TEA CONSUMPTION ON ANXIETY LEVELS AND SLEEP QUALITY AMONG FINAL-YEAR NURSING STUDENTS
Pre-Experimental Research at Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo.
By: Natasya Anggi Ramadhevi
Final-year nursing students are vulnerable to experiencing anxiety and poor sleep quality due to academic demands during the completion of their undergraduate thesis. One of the non-pharmacological interventions that may help reduce anxiety and improve sleep quality is the consumption of green tea (Camellia sinensis), which contains L-theanine, catechins, and polyphenols. This study aimed to analyze the effect of green tea consumption on anxiety levels and sleep quality among final-year nursing students.
This study employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The sample consisted of 15 final-year nursing students selected using proportional simple random sampling. Participants consumed green tea twice daily for seven consecutive days. Anxiety levels were measured using the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21) questionnaire anxiety subscale, while sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Paired Samples t-test.
The results showed that the mean anxiety score decreased from 13.07 ± 1.981 to 4.93 ± 1.831, while the mean sleep quality score decreased from 9.73 ± 2.187 to 3.73 ± 0.884. Statistical analysis demonstrated a significant effect of green tea consumption on anxiety levels and sleep quality among final-year nursing students (p-value < 0.001). It was concluded that green tea consumption effectively reduced anxiety levels and improved sleep quality among final-year nursing students.
