Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study aims to analyze the concept of justice within the Indonesian legal system through a comparative approach using the fictional world of One Piece. The research is motivated by various challenges in law enforcement in Indonesia, including legal inequality, power intervention, and declining public trust in legal institutions. These conditions indicate that the principles of justice and equality before the law have not been fully implemented in practice. This research employs a normative juridical method with a library research approach. The legal materials consist of primary, secondary, and tertiary sources analyzed using theories of justice, the rule of law, the relationship between law and power, the principle of equality before the law, as well as the concepts of formal and substantive justice.
The findings reveal similarities between the concept of justice portrayed in One Piece and the reality of the Indonesian legal system, particularly regarding the influence of power on law enforcement, which may lead to injustice. In One Piece, law is often used as a tool to maintain power, while in Indonesia disparities in law enforcement are still influenced by social, economic, and political factors. The study also finds that formal justice alone is insufficient to achieve genuine justice; therefore, a substantive justice approach that emphasizes humanitarian values and social realities is necessary. Accordingly, strengthening the integrity of law enforcement officials, improving judicial transparency, and promoting socially oriented law enforcement are essential steps toward establishing a more just, humane, and equitable legal system.
