Abstract
Key Words: English Extracurricular, English Club (EC), Think Talk Write (TTW)
When joining English Club, there have strategy in teaching learning process to be
better in writing skill. In line the strategy in teaching learning process to become better, the
researcher suggests a new strategy to teach writing well and more interesting. This strategy
called TTW, the meaning of Think, Talk and Write. “TTW is a learning strategy that started
by the process of thinking through writing material (observing, criticizing and alternative
solution), the writing result is communicated to the presentation or discussion and then
making a report presenting the result”. Stated by Ngalinun (2013: 170). The first step is
Thinking, in this step the students should think the ideas or topic that given by the teacher.
The second step is Talking, the students have to say everything according to what they think
in the previous step. In this step can speak to the class or in group discussions. The last step is
Writing. In this step the students should develop their ideas and think what they have told in
previous step, and then organize the sentences in a written report.
Identification of problem in this research is how the students‟ writing achievement
using Think, Talk, Write TTW strategy of English Club program in SMP Negeri 4 Ponorogo
and the purpose of this research is to know the implementation of English Club the students‟
writing achievement at Eight Grade of SMP Negeri 4 Ponorogo in the academic year of
2016/2017.
This research will be conducted at SMP Negeri 4 Ponrogo. This research will be held
on 06 February – 08 March 2017 at around 12.30-15.00 WIB. The subject of this research is
the students of the English Club class „ESC SPAPO‟ eighth grade of SMP Negeri 4
Ponorogo. Here, this research will be conducted at English Club class that consisted of 40
students. The reason why they are chosen as the subject because most of them still get
difficulties in studying English especially in writing. The researcher can say that because of
based on the score of the students‟ writing skill at eighth grade SMP Negeri 4 Ponorogo. The
researcher hope that after the researcher conducts the action research, the students will have
good skill in writing, especially for the students who joining English Club.
Based on the result of this research, the researcher also concludes that English Club
was suitable to be implemented to improve the students writing skill. It means that English
club could help the students to improve their writing skill especially to students of SMP
Negeri 4 Ponorogo because after join in English Club class and using Think, Talk, Write
strategy the students got new spirit, motivation and creativity to write. It can be seen from the
result of the test that had increased score in most of the students. The students test result in
English Club class using Invitation Card all of students got score more than 75 and reached
the criteria of success. It means that English Club was success and effective to improve
students‟ writing skill at the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 4 Ponorogo.
