Abstract
Key Words: Audio-Visual Media, Writing Skill
Based on preliminary study, the students of SMK Muhammadiyah 2
Ponorogo shows that mastering writing aspect and motivation to learn writing
were very low. Here, the researcher proposed to use audio-visual media
(animation film) in teaching writing. Animation film can make the students more
focus and help students to make paragraph by arranging the sentence well based
on the story. From those statements determine that audio-visual media brings a lot
of advantages to solve students’ problems in writing process.
The statement of this research is how Audio-Visual Media can improve
students’ writing skill at the first grade of SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Ponorogo in
the academic year of 2016/2017. So, the purpose of the research is to find out how
the use of Audio-Visual Media in teaching writing can improve the students’
writing skill at the first grade of SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Ponorogo in the
academic year of 2016/2017.
The subject of this research was the students of tenth grade class MM
(Multimedia) of SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Ponorogo in the academic year of
2016/2017, which consisted of 16 students. The research was started on
September 5, 2016, until September 13, 2016. In this research the researcher used
Classroom Action Research. This classroom action research was conducted in two
cycles. Every cycle consisted of two meetings. The researcher used three
instruments; they were observation checklist, questionnaire, and test.
The result of observation checklist proved that the students were very active
in the class. In the first cycle, the percentage was 58.33%. In the second cycle the
percentage was increase became 87.05%. The result of questionnaire proved that
the most of the students were motivated and interested in learning writing using
audio-visual media. That proved from the result of the cycle 1 was 70.35% and in
the cycle 2 was 83.57%. The result of the test showed that in the first cycle the
mean of students’ score was 61.28 and in the second cycle it was improved
became 75.28
Finally, the researcher concluded that the result of this research shows the
improvement in students’ writing skill by using animation film at the first grade
students of SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Ponorogo. The researcher hopes this research
can be useful for the next researcher and can solve some problem in learning
writing.
