Abstract

Along with changes in people's lifestyles, the number of people with chronic kidney disease (CKD) is currently increasing. Hemodialysis has the potential to affect self-concept, one of which is self-esteem. Low levels of self-esteem can affect compliance with fluid restrictions. This study aims to determine the relationship between self-esteem and adherence to fluid restriction in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis at Dr. Hospital. Harjono Ponorogo. The method used in this study is quantitative with a correlational design using a cross-sectional approach. The population of this study were all CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis with a total of 165 respondents. The sampling technique used purposive sampling with a sample size of 104 respondents. Collecting data using a questionnaire with the Chi-Square correlation test. The results of this study indicate that out of 104 respondents at RSUD Dr. Harjono obtained the results that most of the 63 respondents (60,6%) had high levels of self-esteem and most of the 54 respondents (51,9%) did not comply with fluid restrictions. The results of the Chi-Square statistical test obtained p value = 0,003 < α (0,05) meaning that there is a relationship between self-esteem and compliance with fluid restrictions in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients undergoing hemodialysis at RSUD Dr. Harjono Ponorogo. High levels of self-esteem can increase compliance with fluid restrictions. It is hoped that CKD patients will maintain high self-esteem so that they are more obedient in carrying out fluid restrictions by exploring the positive aspects that exist in the patient.
