Abstract

Key Words: Reading, Paired Storytelling Technique The researcher got some problems from pre observation in the teaching reading skill at SMP Negeri 1 Siman such as the students here afraid to express their idea by using English. The students usually are bored while they are reading. The students are difficult to understand the meaning of the text. Next, students are lack of vocabulary. Then time allocation for English learning is also limited. From that background of study above, the statements of problems of this research are: 1) Does Paired Storytelling Technique increase the reading skill at eight grade of SMP Negeri 1 Siman in 20014/2015 academic year? 2) How does Paired Storytelling technique increase the reading skill at eight grade of SMP Negeri 1 Siman in 20014/2015 academic year? The purposes of the study of this research were: 1) To find out wheather the Paired Storytelling Technique increase the reading skill at SMP Negeri 1 Siman in 2014/2015 academic year. 2) To explain how implementation of Paired Storytelling technique can increase the reading skill at eight grade of SMP Negeri 1 Siman in 2014/2015 academic year. The subject of this research was the students of eighth grade class VIII F of SMP Negeri 1 Siman in academic year of 2014/2015, which consisted of 22 students. This research was done in six meetings from two cycles .The research was started on January 06, 2015 until January 17, 2015. The researcher used three research instruments. They were: observation check list, questionnaire, and test. Based on the result of this research, the implementation of Paired Storytelling technique to increase reading skill at the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 1 Siman in academic year of 2014/2015. The questionnaire result showed that the students were interested in this method. It was seen from the result of the questionnaire I was 72.59% and questionnaire II was 83.08%. The observation check list result showed that the students become active during teaching learning process. It was seen from the result of the observation checklist cycle I was 57.14% up to 82.14% in cycle II. It was seen from the improvement of students’ ability in reading from 50% in cycle I up to 100% in cycle II. Finally, the researcher concluded that the implementation of Paired Storytelling Technique could increase the students’ reading skill at the eighth grade student of SMP Negeri 1 Siman. The researcher gives suggestion that teacher should use variation teaching method, strategy, and technique in order to improve students’ English skill and the students will become interest in English lesson
