Abstract
ABSTRACT RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HISTORY OF DIABETES MELLITUS AND FINAL STATUS OF COVID-19 PATIENTS At RSU 'Aisyiyah Ponorogo By: Vanesha Awaliya Muslimah Covid-19 cases continue to grow rapidly and in a short time have spread to various countries. An increased risk of mortality due to Covid-19 infection usually occurs in patients who have a history of the disease at the start of treatment. Diabetes Mellitus is a condition that makes the body's immune system weak so that the body is susceptible to infection and exacerbates the inflammatory response (inflammation). Vascular endothelial damage, hyperglycemia, and insulin resistance are the result of viral activation. This condition causes an increase in inflammatory factors and an imbalance of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) which triggers death. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between a history of Diabetes Mellitus and the final status of Covid-19 patients at RSU 'Aisyiyah Ponorogo. This research is a type of quantitative research using a retrospective cohort study design. The population in this study was all medical record data of positive Covid-19 patients who were admitted to the hospital at RSU 'Aisyiyah Ponorogo from March - December 2021 totaling 529. The sample in this study was 442, with sampling using the Consecutive Sampling technique. The results of the statistical test using Chi-Square showed a p-value of 0.461 which is greater than α (0.05). It can be concluded that there is no relationship between a history of Diabetes Mellitus and the final status of Covid-19 patients at RSU 'Aisyiyah Ponorogo. The results showed that a history of Diabetes Mellitus was not the main cause of the patient's final death status. Future researchers are expected to carry out more in-depth research related to factors with a history of other diseases including heart disease, hypertension, lung disease, and chronic kidney disease which affect the final status of Covid-19 patients. The hospital is expected to increase the intensity and quality in the management of nursing care quickly and precisely so that Covid-19 patients have the final status of recovery.
