Abstract

Transformational leadership has the potential to support the formation of radical innovation with the role of the ability to share knowledge and the ability to acquire knowledge in college lecturers. Statements put forward regarding transformational leadership support the existence of knowledge sharing and knowledge acquisition to create a radical innovation in terms of the novelty of the learning process. This research was conducted to determine transformational leadership towards radical innovation through the mediation of knowledge sharing abilities and knowledge acquisition abilities. This research is a quantitative study with 118 lecturers at tertiary institutions in the East Java region as respondents using a purposive sampling technique by distributing questionnaires using a Likert scale of one to five, answers that strongly disagree are shown on a scale of 1 and answers that strongly agree are indicated on a scale of 5. SMART-PLS 3 is used as an analysis tool with the PLS-SEM (Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modeling) method. In this study it was found that transformational leadership and radical innovation have a positive and significant relationship with the ability to share knowledge and the ability to acquire knowledge. Knowledge acquisition capabilities and knowledge sharing abilities mediate the relationship between transformational leadership and radical innovation. These findings contribute to the development of transformational leadership theory regarding the most effective leadership style in influencing increased knowledge sharing abilities, knowledge acquisition abilities and radical innovations. This is due to intellectually stimulating transformational leadership to encourage increased radical innovation through increased knowledge acquisition and knowledge sharing capabilities. The novelty of this study is the link between transformational leadership and radical innovation, because researchers found that there is still a lack of research linking transformational leadership and radical innovation. This is what drives the implementation of this research in the hope of novelty and development of research on leadership theory.
