Abstract
The older the individual will experience some decline, namely cognitive function and social interaction. Decreasing cognitive function in the elderly will cause a shift in the role of the elderly in social interaction in society and within the family, due to setbacks or weaknesses such as in movement, thinking, and experiencing verbal communication disorders, causing disturbances in social interaction. This study aims to determine the relationship between cognitive function and social interaction in the elderly in the working area of the Ngariboyo Health Center, Magetan Regency. This type of correlation research uses a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study was 115 elderly people. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling with a total sample of 54 respondents. The research instrument used the MMSE (Mini Mental Status Examination) questionnaire and the social interaction questionnaire. The results of this study indicate that of the 36 respondents who have normal cognitive function, 32 respondents who have good social interactions, and 4 respondents who have bad social interactions. Of the 18 respondents who had decreased cognitive function, there were 8 respondents with good social interactions and 10 respondents with bad social interactions. Data analysis used the Fisher's Exact Test with a p-value (0.01) < α (0.05). In conclusion, there is a relationship between cognitive function and social interaction in the elderly.
