Prodi Pendidikan Guru Madrasah Ibtidaiyah, Fakultas Agama Islam Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo. Pembimbing: (1) Dr. Sigit Dwi Laksana, M.Pd.I, (II) Dr, Anip Dwi Saputro, M.Pd. Pendidikan merupakan usaha yang ditempuh manusia untuk mengembangkan potensi diri melalui proses pembelajaran dan cara-cara lainnya. Pembelajaran membaca yang dilaksanakan di lembaga pendidikan tingkat dasar disesuaikan dengan pembedaan antara kelas rendah dan kelas tinggi. Pembelajaran membaca di kelas rendah di sebut membaca permulaan. Kemampuan membaca adalah modal utama anak dalam mendapatkan pendidikan pada jenjang yang lebih tinggi, hal ini dikarenakan sumber belajar yang tersedia terdapat pada buku yang mengharuskan anak untuk dapat membacanya dengan baik agar mendapat informasi yang diperlukan”.(Liansyah et al., 2022) Membaca merupakan kunci pengetahuan. Dengan membaca siswa akan mudah memahami pesan atau makna dari pembelajaran yang disampaikan oleh guru. Membaca juga membantu siswa untuk berkomunikasi satu sama lain. Membaca permulaan merupakan kegiatan seseorang (anak) dalam memulai suatu kegiatan atau aktivitas dengan mengenal huruf dan simbol-simbol baik menyurakannya dengan lisan atau dalam hati. Tujuan penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mendeskripsikan kesulitan membaca permulaan siswa kelas I serta faktor penghambat dan penanganan yang telah dilakukan oleh guru dalam mengatasi kesulitan membaca permulaan siswa kelas I MI Muhammadiyah Ponorogo. Faktanya ada siswa yang masih belum lancar membaca dan mengalami kesulitan membaca permulaan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan termasuk jenis penelitian deskriptif karena penelitian ini menggambarkan kesulitan membaca permulaan siswa kelas I serta penanganan yang telah dilakukan oleh guru dalam menghadapi kesulitan membaca permulaan yang dialami siswa kelas I. Hasil identifikasi masalah kesulitan-kesulitan yang dialami siswa kelas I MI Muhammadiyah Ponorogo diantaranya belum mengenal/menghafal huruf/ abjad, belum bisa membaca huruf patent, belum bisa membedakan antara huruf yang mirip pengucapannya seperti huruf B dan D, huruf M dan N, huruf V dan W, belum bisa membaca suku kata. Solusi penanganan yang dilakukan oleh guru untuk mengatasi kesulitan membaca permulaan yaitu: Guru memberikan jam tambahan bagi siswa yang mengalami kesulitan membaca permulaan, menyediakan pojok baca di setiap kelas, memberikan perhatian khusus bagi siswa yang mengalami kesulitan membaca, menjadikan huruf menjadi sebuah nyanyian, serta menggunakan media audio visual dan buku bergambar untuk membaca. Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Teacher Education Study Program, Faculty of Islamic Religion, University of Muhammadiyah Ponorogo. Education is an effort taken by humans to develop their potential through learning processes and other ways. Reading learning carried out in elementary level educational institutions is adapted to the distinction between low class and high class. Learning to read in the lower grades is called beginning reading. The ability to read is a child's main capital in getting education at a higher level, this is because the available learning resources are in books that require children to be able to read them well in order to get the information they need.” (Liansyah et al., 2022) Reading is the key to knowledge. By reading students will easily understand the message or meaning of the lesson conveyed by the teacher. Reading also helps students to communicate with each other. Beginning reading is a person's (child) activity in starting an activity or activity by getting to know letters and symbols either saying it orally or silently. The purpose of this research was to describe the difficulty of beginning reading for class I students as well as the inhibiting and handling factors that had been carried out by the teacher in overcoming the difficulty of beginning reading for class I MI Muhammadiyah Ponorogo students. The fact is that there are students who are still not fluent in reading and have difficulty reading at the beginning. This study uses a qualitative approach and is a descriptive research type because this research describes the initial reading difficulties of grade I students and the handling that has been done by the teacher in dealing with initial reading difficulties experienced by grade I students. The results of identification of problems with difficulties experienced by class I MI Muhammadiyah Ponorogo students included not knowing/memorizing letters/alphabet, not being able to read patent letters, not being able to distinguish between letters that are similar in pronunciation such as letters B and D, letters M and N, letters V and W, can't read syllables yet. Solutions for the handling carried out by the teacher to overcome the difficulty of beginning reading are: The teacher provides additional hours for students who have difficulty reading beginning, provides a reading corner in each class, pays special attention to students who have difficulty reading, makes letters into a song, and uses audio visual media and picture books for reading.
