Abstract

The limitations of conventional machine tools are unable to meet the increasingly complex modeling demands. There are too many details that need to be considered, such as surface roughness and high precision. CNC machines have more advantages than conventional milling machines, one of which is contoured surface processing. So the focus of this research is on the parameters of the selection of cutting tools used in the 3D contour finishing process to produce a well-contoured surface. By using variations in spindle speed and cutting speed with roughness testing to determine the variation of the right tool selection. In this research process, 4 specimens of contoured objects were produced. The first process is making a design with Autodesk Inventor software, then programming it with Mastercam X4 software and transferring the G-code to a CNC Milling machine and the final process is testing surface roughness to determine the right tool selection. From the results of the roughness test with the Mitutoyo SJ210 roughness tester, the best tool variation was Ball Endmill F1600 S4000 with a roughness value of 0.672 μm.
