Abstract

The problems that exist in the elderly are related to personal hygiene. The elderly are unable or unwilling to carry out personal hygiene due to a decrease in body functions and a feeling of laziness that arises because of the surrounding conditions and other factors that cause the personal hygiene of the elderly to be disrupted. If this condition is not treated immediately, it will have a negative impact on the elderly. In this case the family is the most important element in supporting the elderly to fulfill personal hygiene. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between family support and personal hygiene in the elderly at the Elderly Posyandu in Balong Village, the Working Area of the Balong Ponorogo Health Center. The research design used is correlation with a cross sectional approach. The population in this study were 121 elderly with 55 samples taken using purposive sampling method. The process of collecting data using a questionnaire with chi-square analysis α (0.05). The results of the study from 55 respondents found that 30 respondents (54.5%) had high family support and 25 respondents (45.5%) had low family support, while 36 respondents (65.5%) had good personal hygiene and 19 respondents (34.5%) have poor personal hygiene. Based on the results of the statistical test, p value (0.000) < (0.05), which shows that there is a relationship between family support and personal hygiene for the elderly in the elderly Posyandu, Balong Village, Working Area of the Balong Ponorogo Health Center. The results of the research conducted need to be maintained and more to be improved in family support for the elderly so that the elderly are able to fulfill personal hygiene.
