Abstract

The increasing number of elderly population in Indonesia causes increasing problems in the elderly group, and physical changes in the elderly will affect the independence of the elderly. Elderly who are independent in carrying out activities can have a high risk of falling in daily activities. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the independence of the elderly and the risk of falling in the elderly at the PTM Posbindu in Sarangan Village, Plaosan District. The design of this study was a quantity. The population in this study was all elderly registered at the PTM Posbindu, Sarangan Village, Plaosan District, totaling 211 people, with purposive sampling techniques and obtained samples of 68 people. The variables of this study were the independence of the elderly and the risk of falling. This research instrument uses the Barthel Index to measure the level of independence of the elderly and the Morse Fall Scale to measure the risk of falls in the elderly. The statistical test used is Spearman Rank. The results showed that almost half of the respondents had independence in the independent category, which was 31 people (45.6%). Almost half of the respondents had a risk of falling in the low risk category of 33 people (48.5%). The results of the data analysis obtained a value of p = 0.000, which means that there is a relationship between the independence of the elderly and the risk of falling in the elderly at the PTM Posbindu in Sarangan Village, Plaosan District. The conclusion is that. Health workers are expected to further improve fall prevention efforts in elderly patients by applying fall prevention techniques as nursing interventions in nursing care for the elderly.
