Abstract
Wheelchairs are a basic need for people with disabilities to move. The application of technology to wheelchairs is important to provide a sense of comfort. Smartphones are one of the comfort factors that need to be applied to wheelchairs. The existing wheelchair system generally only uses manual methods. From this design, a smart wheelchair is produced from a lecture chair using a smartphone via Bluetooth with an Arduino Uno R3 microcontroller. The system design includes designing a smartphone application program and an Arduino program. The program design for the application is based on visual block programming, and for Arduino using C or C++ language. The design of the tool that is controlled using a smartphone as a command input media through the application, Arduino as a microcontroller with a DC motor dynamo as a wheelchair driver, and an ultrasonic sensor as a safety. The reliability of the ultrasonic sensor after being tested 3 times, the results were obtained according to 2 times and slightly less according to 1 time, this is because the sensor has an accuracy of 0.3 cm. The tool is able to work optimally, controlled by a smartphone using the SmartWheel application which can withstand a weight of 53 kg at a speed of 0.28 m/s, where the heavier it is, the slower the wheelchair moves.
