Abstract
Key Words: Writing, Descriptive Text, Guided Writing As an international language, English is very important for student in all level of education. Writing is a communicative act; it is a way of sharing information, thought, experiences, or ideas, between ourselves and others. In teaching writing, there are many techniques that can be applied and one of them is guided writing. Guided writing is an individual or group activity where learners use word maps to organize their ideas and write texts. This research is about the implementation of guided writing to improve writing skill at the eighth grade students of MTs Muhammadiyah 2 Jenangan Ponorogo in the academic year of 2015/2016. The research design in this study was Classroom Action Research. The subject of this research was the eighth grade students of MTs Muhammadiyah 2 Jenangan Ponorogo in the academic year of 2015/2016, especially class VIII A which consisted of 23 students. The research was started on 14th September until 28th September 2015. This research was conducted two cycles. The researcher used three research instruments. There were observation check list, questionnaire, and test. Based on the result of this research, the implementation of guided writing could improve students’ competence in writing descriptive texts at the eighth students of MTs Muhammadiyah 2 Jenangan Ponorogo, it could be seen from the improvement of students’ test score from 34.78% in cycle 1 up to 100% in cycle 2. The questionnaire and observation checklist also got improvement. The questionnaire in cycle I was 45.75% up to 81.51% in cycle II, while the observation was 53.57% in cycle I increased to 78.57% in cycle II. It showed that students enjoyed and became active during teaching and learning process through guided writing method Finally, the researcher gives suggestion that English teacher can use guided writing that can invite students became active in teaching and learning activity. The students should use their chance to study English and they should practice to use English in daily activities. Besides, the students should learn English especially in writing, so the students can get good achievement in English writing skill. The researcher hopes that the result of this study will be useful for the next researcher, so they can develop and increase this technique.
