Abstract

Key Words: Writing ability, Think Pair Share Writing is a complicated language skill which requires ability to express idea, thoughts, and feeling to produce a good write composition. Writing is one of important language skills used by students in English lesson. Teaching writing in SMP N 2 Bungkal faced some problems in learning process. The students felt difficult to write paragraph and they felt difficult for them to express their ideas and telling something on paper. Besides, the English teacher usually used monotonous method. To solve the problem above the researcher used think pair share to teach writing ability at seventh grade of SMP N 2 Bungkal. This research focus on how does the implementation of think pair share improve students’ writing ability at seventh grade of SMP N 2 Bungkal in Academic Year 2015/2016. The purpose of this research is to improve students’ writing ability using think pair share technique at seventh grade of SMP N 2 Bungkal in Academic Year of 2015/2016. The subject of the research was the seventh grade students of SMP N 2 Bungkal in academic year 2015/2016 especially class B which consisted of 22 students. The research design in this study is Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research was started on March 28th, 2016 until April 9th 2016. This research was conducted in two cycles. The researcher used three research instruments; they were observation, questionnaire, and test. Based on the result of this research, the implementation of think pair share technique could improve students’ writing ability at the seventh grade students of SMP N 2 Bungkal. The result of students’ test in cycle I, there were 68.18% who got score more than the minimum mastery criteria (KKM) ≥ 75. The result of students’ test in cycle II, there were 100% who got score more than minimum mastery criteria (KKM) ≥ 75. It means there was improvement from cycle 1 to cycle II and the study has been successful. The questionnaire result showed that students enjoyed and became active during teaching learning process. Finally, the researcher gives suggestion that English teachers can use think pair share technique as an alternative method in teaching writing. The next researcher can develop this method.
