Abstract
Key Words: Reading comprehension, Story Mapping Reading comprehension as the process of creating meaning from text. The purpose is to get an understanding of the text rather than to acquire meaning from individual words or sentences. The purpose of this research is know the improvement of students’ reading comprehension by using story mapping at eight grade of SMP Negeri 2 Ponorogo in academic year 2016/2017. The subject of this research was the students of eight grade class VIII I of SMP Negeri 2 Ponorogo in academic year 2016/2017 which consisted of 32 students. The research was started on 13 February until 13 March 2017. This Classroom Action Research was conducted in two cycles and each cycle consist of two meetings. In this research, the researcher used three reasearch instruments consist of observation checklist, questionnaire and test. Based on the result of this research, the implementation of story mapping improved students’ reading comprehension at eight grade of SMP Negeri 2 Ponorogo. It could be seen from the result of observation in cycle 1 was 50% and 86% in cycle 2. The result of questionnaire sheet in cycle 1 was 81.36% and 80.17% in cycle 2. The result of students’ test in cycle 1 was increased. The percentage of students’ test in cycle 1 was 96.77% and 100% in cycle 2. It showed that the students’ reading ability improved by using story mapping. Finally, the researcher gives suggestion that the english teacher should motivate students to learning english especially to improve their reading comprehension and learning achievement and improve their teaching english xi especially reading comprehension by using the media and other methods. The students should always understand, try to practice and improve their English skill especially in reading. The studentsalso can practice their reading comprehension by using story mapping method. In the end, the researcher hopes that the result of this study will be useful for the next researcher.
