Abstract

Keywords: mind mapping strategy, writing skill. English as an international language has been used for all over the world in recent years In English learning process, there are four skills that should be mastered. They are listening, speaking, reading, and writing. These fourth skills will help students in learning English. One of them, students must be learn writing skills. In education sector, writing skill is very important to explore the student’s ability. One of strategies that usually used learning process in writing is mind mapping. This strategy is usually used in learning process because this strategy can explore the students’ ideas in writing skills. This research was aimed to know the influence to mind mapping strategy to writing skill at the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Kecamatan Ponorogo. This research was a pre-experimental research. There are two variables in this research. Mind mapping strategy as independent variable (variable X) and Writing skill as dependent variable (variable Y), the technique of collecting data was by using a pre-test and post-test. The sample of research is 30 students from class VII G at the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Ponorogo in the academic year 2016/2017. As a result by using Paired-sample T test, it was found out that the sum of the scores pre-test is 1905. The sum of the scores of the post-test is 2640.The result of applying the distribution shows that the coefficient correlation is 9.55. The result is by compared by in the significance 5% is 2.045. It means is higher than (9.55 > 2.045). So, alternative Hypothesis ( ) is accepted and null hypothesis ( ) is rejected. The conclusion of this research that the hypothesis of was accepted. It means that there was influence of mind mapping strategy towards writing skill at the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Ponorogo in the academic year 2016/2017
