Abstract
Reading is one of the important skills in English and it gives many benefits for us. To master reading, students need to have reading desire and must try to read something intensively and continually. In teaching reading, we can use technique to improve students’ reading ability. One of technique is Cooperative script method. Coopeartive script is a powerful tool in concept development an enchange. This technique could make students enjoyable in class. In English we can use method as a tool to improve the students’ skill. In this case, it will take cooperative script method. This is a method of cooperative learning where Students work in pairs and orally summarizing sections of material studied. Tell the students that they will use this method to create their own word orally and become a narrative text. In accordance to the fact above, that the statement of problem in this study is “how can the implementation of reading cooperative script method increase reading skill at the tenth grade of MA Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo in 2013/2014 academic year. The research was done in MA Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo started on May19th until May 31st 2014, which consisted of 22 students. The study was conducted in two cycles. The writer used three research instruments, they were: observation check list, questionnaire, and test. From the data, it could be seen that the questionnaire result increased from 64,67% in cycle 1 to 80,31% in cycle 2, it means that the students enjoyed teaching learning process and the observation checklist showed that students’ activeness increased from 42,85% in cycle 1 to 82,14% in cycle 2, it means that the students active in this lesson. The test showed that there were 12 students who got low score under basic minimum standard score 75 in cycle 1. The result of test in cycle 1 the students got above the KKM was 45,45%. Then in cycle 2, all of the students who got score above the KKM had improved become 100%. It means that the study had been succesfull using cooperative script method because all of the students got ≥ 75. Finally, the researcher concluded that the result of this research showed thatis implementation students’ reading skillusing cooperative scriptmethod at the tenth grade of MA Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo.
