Abstract
The amount of waste tires that cause various problems in the environment where if the tires are burned will cause environmental pollution, but if the tires are left like that, it will also take a very long time to decompose in nature. Therefore, waste tires can be made into composite materials. To increase the strength of composite materials, natural fibers can be used, one of which is banana fiber. This research method uses three materials, namely banana stem fiber, tire rubber and epoxy in the manufacture of composites. With a percentage of 10% banana stem fiber, 0% tire particles and 90% epoxy, the highest tensile test results obtained were 686 N and 11.43 N/mm2 for tensile load and maximum tensile stress, respectively. While the lowest tensile test results with values of 287.3 N and 4.78 N/mm2 were obtained at 10% tire particle composition, 0% banana stem fiber and 90% epoxy. From the results of the tensile test and tensile stress the addition of banana stem fiber affects the tensile strength of the composite. Then the results of macro and micro structural observations showed that the lack of emphasis in the specimen manufacturing process resulted in cavities in the specimen.
