Amalia, Elvira Putri. 2023. The Impact of Foreign K-pop Idols on Indonesian Fans English Learning Motivation in Terms of English as a Foreign Language. Thesis. English Education Department, Muhammadiyah University of Ponorogo. Advisors: (1) Dr. Ana Maghfiroh, M.Pd.B.I. (2) Dr. Diyah Atiek Mustikawati, S.Pd., M.Hum. Keywords: Foreign K-pop Idol, English Learning, Motivation, EFL. Motivation is essential to the English learning process. Motivation was affected by intrinsic and extrinsic aspects. Extrinsic aspects come from outside of oneself. Foreign K-pop idol is the one example of the extrinsic motivation where triggered their fans’ motivation to learn English. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of foreign K-pop idols on Indonesian fans’ English learning motivation. The researcher used ethnographical qualitative. The research subject were Indonesian fans of foreign K-pop idols that were determined by purposive sampling. The researcher used observation, documentation, and shared questionnaire to collect the data. The Spradley model was applied to analyze the data. The research was conducted from December 12, 2022 until January 17, 2023. The result showed that the aspect that triggered foreign K-pop idol fans’ English learning motivation were that idols’ English ability and their song. Indonesian fans ran their motivation to learn English to achieve their goals, especially to interact with their idols. Foreign K-pop idol fans also interacted with international fans on social media. Those interaction gave a lot of positive impacts to Indonesian fans. According to the findings above, the researcher concluded that foreign K-pop idols triggered Indonesian K-pop fans’ motivation to learn English. The positive impacts received by their fans were they’re more enthusiastic to learn English, and most of them had strong motivation to learn English in average.
