Abstract

Key Words: Reading Skill, Webtoon, Narrative Text Reading narrative text is the one of the points that must be mastered by students in the school. Narrative text is a text that describe about the fiction story. Webtoon is a media that ease the students to read in comprehension. The statement problem of this research is “is webtoon effective toward students’ reading comprehension on narrative text for the tenth grade of Ma Ma’arif Al Mukarrom?” The purpose of this study is to examine whether the webtoon is effective toward students’ reading comprehension on narrative text. This research was an experimental research. The population from the three classes, the researcher used the whole population, because the population was less than 100. The sample of this research was the total number of the population divided into two groups. The number of the sample was 36 students for experimental class and 36 students for control class. In this research, the researcher gave a treatment to the experimental class. The treatment was using webtoon as the media in teaching reading. The instrument of this research included pre-test and post-test that consisted of multiple-choice, and the indicator content was reading skill especially in narrative text for collecting data. The result of the post-test, tcount was 2,184 while ttable = 1,994 with the degree of freedom (df) = 70 and α = 0,05. So, tcount>ttable = 2,184 > 1,994, this result indicated that tcount was higher than ttable. It means that there were difference scores between experimental and control group. Then, the result of the mean score of post test of the experimental group was 77,00 from 65,44. In conclusion, there was effectiveness of using webtoon in teaching reading comprehension on narrative text.
