Abstract

Keywords : Estafet Writing, Procedure text Writing skills are specifics abilities which help writers put their thoughts into words in a meaningful form and to mentally interact with the message The background of this research was based on the observation which had been done by the researcher with the English teacher of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo. The result of observation showed that some of the 11th grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo were unmotivated in learning English. This condition made students had difficulties in learning English, especially in learning writing skill. Estafet Writing is one of techniques which can be used to teach writing, especially in teaching procedure text. This study was aimed to improve the students ability in writing procedure text. This research had a purpose to answer the research two questions: 1) Can estafet method improve students’ writing skill at the eleventh grade of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo in 2018/2019? 2) How does the result of the use of estafet method improve students’ writing skill at the eleventh grade of SMA 1 Muhammadiyah Ponorogo in 2018/2019 ? This research were a Classroom Action Research (CAR). Done through two cycles. The subject of this research was the XI MIPA 4 students of SMA 1 Muhammadiyah Ponorogo in the academic year of 2018/2019. The data were obtained by observation, test, and questionnaire. The result of this research showed that the students’ in cycle 1 was 20 students or 71% achieved the minimum standard score (KKM). The highest score was 85 and the lowest score was 65. In cycle 2 there were 29 students or 100% achieved the minimum standard score (KKM). The highest score was 95 and the lowest score was 75. Related to the observation and questionnaire result showed that there were positive responses. The students was more active and brave to ask teacher about material. The students has good responsibility in group work. This research had found out the improvement of students’ writing skill on procedure text after being taught by using Estafet Writing at the 11th grade of SMA 1 Muhammadiyah Ponorogo academic year 2018/2019.
