Abstract

Key Words: Writing Skill, Imaging Strategy and Descriptive text Nowadays, people were life in the modern era which full of competition in many aspects with other countries. Some of competitions are on education, trade, and technology aspects. In this part, English becomes an important language in international communication process because in a fact, English is used as international language and people in every country have been studying English. Writing is an important thing in communication, especially in education. We can communicate to other people by writing. In the teaching and learning process of writing, the teacher needs an appropriate strategy which would be effective to teach their students. To solve the problem above, the teacher should use interesting strategy to produce learners who have ability in writing skill. The strategy is imaging strategy. Imaging is a strategy that encourages students to create an image in their minds to support the understanding of concepts or problems to be solved. Here, the writer uses imaging in descriptive text. Because, the students sometimes feel difficult to write descriptive text and to express and develop their idea. The purpose of this research is to know whether imaging strategy can increase students’ writing skill at the eighth grade students of SMP N 2 Ponorogo in the 2013/2014 academic year. This study is focused on students who are studying in Junior High School. Classroom action research will be held in SMP N 2 Ponorogo in 2013/2014 academic year. It is located at Jl. Basuki Rahmad 44 Ponorogo. The subject was class VIII D that consists of 32 students. Based on the result of the research, the implementation of Imaging Strategy to increase students writing skill at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Ponorogo in 20013/2014 academic year was successful. They were able to understand the material well. It was able to show from the result of the test, the mean of the students’ score increased from 50% to 100%. It meant that the students had already passed the target of minimum mastery criteria. Besides, the result of observation check list proved that the students were active in class. The students also could do the test well. Then, the result of questionnaire proved that the mean was increasing. The students were interested, motivated and agreed with teaching writing by using Imaging strategy. Finally, the researcher gives suggestion that English teachers should motivate the students and find the best way to teach English in order the students to be interested. And, the next researcher should choose or use many media and method to support teaching learning process in order not to be monotonous for the students.
