Abstract

ABSTRACT
THE RELATIONSHIP OF TOOTHBRUSH COMPLIANCE WITH DENTAL HEALTH STATUS IN CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS RESEARCH AT THE SLB YKK SUMBERHARJO PACITAN

By : Cindi Ameilia

Children with special needs have a low level of dental health and hygiene compared to normal children, because of the low level of compliance and uncooperativeness in brushing their teeth or maintaining dental health, which will have an impact on the emergence of dental health problems such as caries, calculus, and debris on the teeth. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between tooth brushing compliance and dental health status in children with special needs at Slb Sumberharjo Pacitan.
This study used a quantitative research design with a correlation study. The research design that will be carried out uses a cross-sectional approach. The number of samples is 39 respondents with a purposive sampling technique. Data collection used a toothbrushing compliance questionnaire and dental health status examination (OHI-S). Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test with a P value <0.05.
Based on this study, it was found that children with special needs who were obedient in brushing their teeth had good and moderate dental hygiene, while those who were less obedient in brushing their teeth had moderate dental hygiene, having an even distribution of 13 students (50%). Based on the chi-square test, a p value of 0.002 was obtained so that H1 was accepted. It can be concluded that there is a relationship between compliance with brushing teeth and dental health status in children with special needs at SLB YKK Sumberharjo Pacitan. Children with Special Needs with support and education from various parties are able to carry out daily activities like normal children, one of which is the behavior of brushing teeth that has been done independently and obediently. In this case, it can be influenced by several factors such as age, gender, and family support.
