ABSTRACT
Pambayu, Risma Ayu Indah. 2024. The Effectiveness of Using Flipped
Classroom Model Towards Students Listening Comprehension in Tenth Grade (SMAN 1 Badegan), Thesis. Department of English Education, Muhammadiyah University of Ponorogo. Advisor (1) Siti Asiyah, M.Pd., Advisor (2) Niken Reti Indriastuti M.Pd.
Keyword: Flipped Classroom, Listening Comprehension.
This research aims to determine the effectiveness of using the Flipped Classroom Model on the listening comprehension in tenth grade students at SMAN 1 Badegan Ponorogo.
A true experimental design was used in this research with a two group design (Control and Experiment) Post-test only. The population of this research was X grade students of SMAN I Badegan Ponorogo for the 2023/2024 academic year. There were 67 students selected as samples, 33 students in the experimental group (X8) and 34 students in the control group (X2) by used the probability sampling technique. This research was carried out three meetings, and the data was obtained through listening test.
The finding showed that the Flipped Classroom Model was effective for improving students’ listening comprehension. This was supported by the average score of students in the experiment group was greater than the average score of control group (87,82 > 64,41). And the Hypothesis test result showed that significance (2-tailed) was 0.000. Since, significance (2-tailed) = 0.000 < 0.05, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. The result showed that the Flipped Classroom Learning Model was effective in improving students’ listening comprehension.
From the result of the study, it was concluded that the Flipped Classroom Model was effective in improving student’s listening comprehension. The researcher would like to suggest that the Flipped Classroom Model can be applied for teaching listening comprehension skills. Especially for intermediate to advanced level learners. Researcher hoped that there will be similar research using this technique that includes other writing themes. Researcher also hoped that English language learners will have better and improved listening comprehension skills, especially in the field of education, which is in line with curriculum demands.
