Abstract
ABSTRACT
Masykuri, Nauval Avif. 2024. Analysis of Tacit and Explicit Knowledge Management in Improving Librarian Performance (Case Study at IAIN Ponorogo). Islamic Library and Information Science Study Program. Faculty of Islamic Studies. Supervisor (I) Dr. Sigit Dwi Laksana, M.Pd.I. and Supervisor (2) Ayu Walansari, S.Kom., M.A.
Keywords: Tacit Knowledge, Explicit Knowledge, Librarian Performance.
IAIN Ponorogo Library has been accredited with an A rating, implementing explicit knowledge in various innovative services such as entry gates, security gates, and online service applications. However, there are tacit and explicit knowledge in the form of articles and work programs that have not yet been realized as services. This study aims to analyze the management of tacit and explicit knowledge and their supporting and inhibiting factors in improving librarian performance at IAIN Ponorogo.
This research uses a descriptive qualitative method and was conducted at the IAIN Ponorogo Library, Campus 1 and 2. Primary data sources include the Head of the Library, librarians, and the library's technology department at IAIN Ponorogo, while secondary data were obtained from books, websites, and electronic journals. Data collection techniques include direct observation of librarian activities, interviews with the head of the library and librarians, and documentation to collect and analyze documents, archives, photos, and other related materials. The data collected were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman qualitative method, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing.
The results show that librarians at IAIN Ponorogo uncover tacit knowledge through communities, annual work programs, benchmarking, and informal activities such as shared meals and coffee breaks. This has led to the development of new services such as entry gates, security gates, RFID-based book lending, and online service applications. Explicit knowledge is applied through meetings and coordination, followed by evaluation after implementation. Supporting factors in the implementation of tacit and explicit knowledge include human resource capabilities, organization, technology, leadership, learning, and the availability of funds. Inhibiting factors include the time required for fund allocation when programs need financing, system troubles, and a lack of programmer understanding in translating explicit knowledge.
