EFFECTIVENESS OF LAVENDER AROMATHERAPY IN REDUCING PAIN SCALE OF POST-SURGERY FRACTURE PATIENTS

A fracture is a condition where there is trauma or a break in the continuity of bone or cartilage tissue. In the surgical procedure that is carried out, it can cause problems for patients, especially pain. Post-operative pain occurs due to mechanical stimulation of the wound which causes the body to produce chemical mediators of pain. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of lavender aromatherapy in reducing pain scale in post-surgical fracture patients. This study used a Pre-experiment design in the form of One Group pre-test and post-test design, the sample size in this study was 15 respondents, sampling using the Purposive Sampling technique, Data analysis using the Wilcoxon Rank Test. The results of the statistical test showed that the average pain scale before being given lavender aromatherapy was 5.22 and the pain scale after being given lavender aromatherapy was 4.13, which showed a decrease in the average pain scale. The Wilcoxon test results obtained p value = 0.000. Thus the p value is smaller than α (5%) or 0.05 so that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted, so lavender aromatherapy is effective in reducing the pain scale of post-fracture surgery patients. Inhaling lavender aromatherapy can provide direct benefits to patients, this can be a recommendation in nursing interventions on the pain scale in post-operative patients.
