Abstract
Indonesia's education system is shifting from teacher-centered to student-centered, utilizing experiential learning methods to increase student involvement and improve English speaking skills, thereby transforming the teaching approach. The purpose of this study is to explore how experiential learning method can encourage students' activeness and involvement during English learning in speaking class at Academy of Brain Castle Course. As well as describing how the instructor in planning, implementing, and evaluating the application of experiential learning methods in the ABC course speaking class.
The researcher used qualitative research method by taking research subjects in the form of 4 instructors at ABC course as respondents and the main data source of the research. The data collection technique was through observation, interview, and documentation. While data analysis was through data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing.
The result of this study shows that experiential learning method can encourage students’ activeness and involvement during English learning in speaking class. Students agreed that the experiential learning method applied by instructors at Academy of Brain Castle is fun and easy to follow. The activities applied to build students’ experience such as role-play, games, singing, and hands-on practice, where the activities combine in individual, pairs, and collaboration approaches.
In conclusion, the application of experiential learning method in English language learning in speaking class can increase students to actively participate during the learning process and improve their confidence and speaking ability. It proves that the application of experiential learning is suitable to be used in ABC course to engage students’ activeness and involvement during English learning process in speaking class. The successful method can be recommended for instructor, institution, and next researcher to develop experiential learning strategies and methods in English language learning.
