Abstract
This study aimed to explore students' perception of using the HelloTalk
application to overcome English speaking anxiety and analyze and describe the
level of English speaking anxiety factor experienced by students. The researcher
started by explaining the background of the problem, where speaking anxiety was
identified as a significant challenge for many students in language learning. It also
presented a literature review that discussed theories related to speaking anxiety and
the role of technology in English language education, including previous studies
that had shown the positive impact of using HelloTalk in language learning.
HelloTalk as a medium that allowed interaction with native speakers, was expected
to provide a supportive learning experience.
The research method used a descriptive qualitative approach to delve deeper
into students' perceptions. Data were obtained through interviews and observations
of randomly selected HelloTalk application users. The data collected were
described thematically after being processed with careful methods to ensure that the
research data could be documented in depth.
In the findings section, the researcher presented the results of data analysis
obtained through interviews and observations. According to the study, students'
nervousness when speaking English was caused by their lack of confidence, worries
about being judged, and heightened anxiety during academic tasks. Students give
feedback on the HelloTalk application's usefulness and recommendations for future
users, and it provides practice chatroom, voiceroom, and voice massage
capabilities.
The study showed that the HelloTalk application could be an effective tool
for overcoming English speaking anxiety, and provided recommendations for
readers in general for a better learning experience, and the researcher also suggested
further research in the future, regarding exploring the long-term impact of using the
app on students' English learning. These findings were expected to make a
significant contribution to the development of more innovative and effective
English learning and teaching strategies.
