RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HUSBAND'S SUPPORT AND WIFE'S DECISION IN CHOOSING LONG-TERM CONTRACEPTION METHODS

The dominance of short-term contraceptive use in Dusun Wonokerto is influenced by various factors, including economic considerations, the intention to have more children in the near future, and limited husband involvement in the Family Planning (FP) program. The lack of education for husbands regarding the benefits of Long-Term Contraceptive Methods (LTCM) also contributes to the low adoption of these methods. This study aims to determine the relationship between husband support and wives’ decisions in choosing LTCM.
This research used a correlational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 59 women of reproductive age (WRA) active in the FP program were selected using purposive sampling from a population of 145. Data were collected using questionnaires measuring husband support and the wife’s contraceptive choices. Data analysis was conducted using the Chi-square test with a significance level of α < 0.05.
Among the 14 respondents who received husband support, 78.6% chose LTCM. In contrast, among the 45 respondents with limited support, only 26.7% chose LTCM. The statistical analysis showed a significant relationship between husband support and the wife’s decision to use LTCM (p = 0.001).
These findings indicate that husband involvement plays a significant role in supporting wives’ choices regarding long-term contraception. Increased education and outreach efforts targeting husbands are essential to improve participation in the FP program and promote the effective use of LTCM.
